As well as taking care of your hair, it’s important to invest in your skin too. I often wish I’d taken better care of mine in my teens and early twenties. Back then, I would trowel on makeup and occasionally collapse into bed without taking it off. Ewww!
Luckily, it’s never too late to make a change! The condition of my skin has improved so much since introducing a proper skin care routine. I’m not perfect and I don’t do it all religiously, but I always take my makeup off at the end of the day, no matter how tired (or drunk) I am. I may resort to using a makeup wipe, but I make sure it’s all off!
I’m no skin care expert, but I do have some firm favourites that I repurchase over and over again. Before I share these with you, it’s worth noting I’ve been ‘blessed’ with classic combination skin – an oily t-zone (nose and forehead) with dry patches on my cheeks and under-eyes.

Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate
I LOVE this stuff! People often think those of us with oily skin should avoid oil-based products, but this isn’t the case. Oil attracts oil, so they can help reduce that extra grease. I use this product roughly three times a week and I notice a big difference when I wake up in the morning.
Kiehl’s Rosa Arctica Cream
I’d been noticing some dry patches under my eyes, so I thought it was time to invest in an eye cream. I picked this up in duty free and have been a fan ever since. Infused with the rare ‘Resurrection Flower’, it re-energises skin for visibly younger-looking eyes. I’ve found it naturally brightens and smooths fine lines. I use this at night, switching to The Ordinary Caffeine Solution in the morning as it targets pigmentation and puffiness.
Mario Badescu Oil-Free Moisturiser
This is a nice lightweight moisturiser that also contains SPF17. Wearing SPF daily is so important to keep your skin protected. Again, this is something I wish I’d started years ago.
Mario Badescu Drying Lotion
This product reminds me of putting toothpaste on my spots as a teen in the desperate hope it would make them vanish overnight. The difference is this actually works! The pink chalky solution can be dotted onto your spots before bed and it will dry up your breakout overnight. It’s specially formulated with salicylic acid, sulfur, and zinc oxide to help draw impurities from the skin and target pesky problems while you sleep. Genius.
Agera RX Microderma System
Every Sunday, I like to have a good exfoliation using this miracle product. I bought it in desperation from Destination Skin after a big breakout on holiday and I’m SO glad I did. Vitamin C crystals are used to give the skin a good scrub (which they do amazingly well) and then the activating gel is applied on top to foam up and cleanse the skin. Afterwards, I like to use my Kiehl’s Daily Reviving Oil.
If you’re not sure where to start with your own skin care routine, Kiehl’s has a handy skin routine finder on their website.
Like I said, I always like to wash my face at the beginning and end of the day. I haven’t found my holy grail face wash yet and I’d love some suggestions. I’m currently testing Clinique’s facial soap and while it does leave my skin nice and clean, there’s still something missing. Which face wash do you swear by?
